Just how many different types of cancer are there? With so many new cases of cancer around us, we often come across different names and specifications. When a person first discovers the disease, it is usually because of screening or symptoms that unveil everything. Feeling an actual tumor or symptoms related to a tumor might take a person to the doctor's office. Cancers often appear in the form of tumors. There are actually two types of tumors: benign and malignant. Benign tumors are not cancerous and do not spread throughout the body, and malignant tumors are cancerous and can spread. Therefore, when it comes to cancer, we are dealing with malignant tumors only. However, benign tumors might grow and apply pressure to surrounding organs. In that case, they must be surgically removed. Cancer treatment (for malignant tumors) includes chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and more. Sometimes, the cancerous tumor cannot be cured, but it is treated in order to prolong the patient's life. In order to differentiate between the two different types of tumors, a cell biopsy is usually performed. Determining the tumor type is one of the first steps to determining the cancer type or the lack of cancer. Considering how many different types of cancer there are, it is obvious that cancer treatment is specialized.
