Common Cancer Types

Of all the different types of cancer, there are a few types that seem to affect a great number of people. These common cancer types include non-melanoma skin cancers, which make about half of all cancers diagnosed in the United States and are linked to exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Other common types include breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer, as well as all forms of leukemia (blood cancer) and most forms of lymphomas (lymph node cancer). Even though non-melanoma skin cancer is a widespread type, the good thing is that it has a very good prognosis. Other cancer types, however, can be fatal, if they are not discovered and treated in time. Lung cancer claims the largest number of lives, followed by breast cancer and colon cancer. It must be noted that breast cancer can affect more women and men; however, in males the disease is not as common as in females. The problem is that many forms of the disease do not produce cancer symptoms in early stages. Therefore, the disease often goes unnoticed until its later stages when it might be too late. Even though some cancers might be similar, cancer treatment varies with each individual case. Research shows that in order to reduce the risk of developing any cancer types, one must refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol, and exposing themselves to the sun, ultraviolet rays, and certain chemicals. Instead, people should lead active lifestyles with regular exercise routines and regulate fat intake.
