Cancer Care
Cancer care is a concern of all patients and their families and friends. These days, patients spend most of their time at home, and therefore they must be aware of all the guidelines and suggestions that apply to them. In the past, patients used to receive weeks of cancer care at hospitals, where they were fed and taken care of on-site. Medical advancements have made it possible to stay at home during the period of
cancer treatment. Patients must still make frequent visits to different doctors, including oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, and more. With so many different doctors to visit, a patient or close friend or family member should be responsible for managing and tracking all aspects of cancer care, including all the paperwork involved. Individuals who receive care from specialized cancer centers have it easier, because all their doctors are located under one roof. Another option would be to receive assistance from organizations that help patients coordinate everything. In any case, a significant part of cancer care is reserved for the home and a helping hand would be very useful. Even though chemotherapy, for example, is not administered at home, the side effects of chemotherapy kick in when a patient is at home. Cancer care does not only include doctor's visits, treatments, and procedures, it also includes the daily plan for patients, including diet and nutrition, activity, rest, and more. It is a disease that can be fought in many cases; therefore, adequate attention would make the odds of success higher and the process less stressful. Cancer care does not end when the disease is gone, patients must still make follow-up visits to the doctor and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
