Different Types of Bladder Cancer
The different types of
bladder cancer usually occur in the cells that line the interior of the bladder, and they usually affect older people. However, individuals of any age can develop the disease that affects different bladder cells. The type of cell affected determines the type of cancer. The good thing is that most of the different types of bladder cancer are usually diagnosed early on, when treatable. Like other cancer types, if left untreated, the disease could be deadly. Among the different types of bladder cancer are transitional cell carcinoma, which develops in the cells lining the inside of the bladder and can spread to the ureters and your urethra; squamous cell carcinoma, which occurs when squamous cells, that respond to irritation in the bladder, become cancerous; adenocarcinoma which develops in the cells of the bladder's mucus-secreting glands. Among the different types of bladder cancer, the most common in the United States and the United Kingdom is transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). Squamous cell carcinoma, however, is rare in these countries; it is more prevalent in regions where parasites cause bladder infections. Adenocarcinoma is also rare. If bladder cancer remains in the lining of the bladder, it is referred to as superficial cancer; however, if it spreads to the bladder's muscle wall, it is invasive cancer. The risk that comes with invasive cancer is that it can further spread to other organs and parts of the body. Different types of bladder cancer can spread to the prostate glands (men), vagina (women), bowel, liver, lymph nodes, and bones.
